Pidgin Error Reading Blist
They have not been loaded, and the old file has been renamed to C:\Users\my name\AppData?\Roaming\.purple\blist.xml~. If there is bad data, it will produce an error, which is what is happening to you - one good start followed by a bad one. and if pidgin isn't the only application having problems I don't think "w/e" is the correct response. If I cancel that and delete the copy of the group that doesn't have the characters from my buddy list, and then try to rename the funky version, it puts me etc. If you don't want it to be public, you can also send it per mail to me directly. Any subsequent start of Pidgin yields the error, until I delete the blist.xml file. Disable and enable the problem account and the group with the ever-changing name is back. etc. How can I fix this? The message could come from a group- or buddyname that has utf-8 characters in it.
You could try digging through your blist.xml file looking for bad characters. I quit pidgin and restarted it... you can back it up although it looks like pidgin has done that already. check over here I think this is not so much a problem of the file itself, however, with how pidgin deals with an unexpected buddy list entry from AOL, so I doubt you will
Running Ubuntu 10.04 (64 Bit) with Linux 2.6.32-25-generic #44-Ubuntu, Gnome 2.30.2 and Pidgin 2.7.3 here. Thank You. I have no idea what the exact reason for this is.

I was just about to say that the group doesn't show up in pidgin -- probably since it has a corrupt name.
I added a bugwatch to the developers. This only happens when IRC Helper is enabled, and "" is the character at fault. I think that's the bug that would need to be fixed, but without being able to reproduce it I don't think that's going to be possible. You just have to let pidgin reload the buddy list and then modify it back to your liking.
