So the combo of setting it to ATA and clearing the thermal events fixed it. When I did do a restart it started the problem again.

I was getting the same error message when I had failed to install it correctly, but I fixed it (I think by resetting my BIOS). So I cleared the event log in the BIOS too. My 'backup' drive was gone will ALL my files in it! I know this post is old, but the issues are still current.
